Juris Doctor Courses

The study of law is one of the most exciting experience a student can achieve academically. Barclay College of Law at Cavalla International University provides a well-rounded and solid legal educational program for the students throughout their entire stayed at the college. This helps the students to develop strong intellectual legal minds and to be confident as they develop and polish their legal skills. The atmosphere at the law college is cordial and respectful, which takes into consideration the extraordinary global community of the university. The program covers the core principles, theory, concept, and legal skills while placing strong emphasis on thorough research, theory, practice, and many hands-on activities to engage the minds of students. Our faculty provide many practical examples and demonstrations to help students develop independent research, writing and legal abilities.
 

The Juris Doctor requires 108 credits for completion. Students have the option to complete the program in 2-3 years. General courses, which may be altered are listed below:

Executive Juris Doctor (EJD)

Executive Juris Doctor program requires 90 credits. The EJD is a multi-disciplined doctoral degree, which is designed for non-practicing professionals who would like to know the law but not practice as lawyers. The purpose of the program is to help students develop legal mind and to possess solid legal and business knowledge.  After the completion of the program students would be prepared to navigate the legal world as well as the business community. Students of the EJD program study selected courses from the School of Business and Barclay School of Law.  It is a professional doctoral program and requires a capstone.

The program requires 90 credits for completion. Students enrolled in the accelerated option can complete the Executive Juris Doctor degree in about a 1 ½ – 2 years, while those enrolled in the Standard Semester Options may complete the degree in about 2-3 years.

Barclay School of Law also offers the Master of Laws (LLM) degree which is designed for students with Juris Doctorate degree (JD)Bachelor’s degree in the letter of Law (LLB) or its equivalent. The degree is designed to help students develop specialized skills and expertise in their field of study. It is a post Juris Doctorate degree and require 39 semester credit hours for completion. The program usually takes one year for completion. Thesis requirements for the MLS and LLM are the same, students may elect to work on a capstone. Students enrolled in the concurrent MLS/JSD programs are required to submit a research thesis as final research project.

All Students admitted in the programs are required to stay in close contact with their faculty mentor. They will enroll in individual courses related to their area of concentration, which will cumulate into the defending of the required research thesis or capstone.  The Master of Laws (LLM) is offered in the following concentrations:

Barclay School of Law also offers the Master of Legal studies (MLS) degree. Which is designed for students with bachelor’s degree, its equivalent or other advance degrees other than a law degree. The program requires 39 semester credit hours and usually takes one year for completion. Thesis requirements for the MLS and LLM are the same, students may elect to work on a capstone. Students enrolled in the concurrent MLS/JSD programs are required to submit a research thesis as final research project.

The Doctor of Juridical Science in Law (SJD) program is the most advanced law degree that is available at law schools today. The degree is equivalent to the Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD). It is designed for students who want to engage in research and scholarly work and want to contribute to the legal community in an outstanding way. Students who possess a Master of Laws (LLM) degree or a Master of Legal Studies (MLS) degree are eligible to enroll. Doctoral Candidates are required to work with their faculty advisors while they are pursuing their doctoral programs. Students are required to conduct research and investigate broad original ideas from abstract or vacant perspectives to a specific scope of reality. The program is designed to be completed in 2 ½ – 3 years (accelerated option). A dissertation is required.
